Hello everyone!
Welcome to that brief window of joy, after the ground has dried out sufficiently to make countryside walking a delight, and before we've started fretting about droughts and hosepipe bans.
So let's leap through the window (metaphorically of course, in case you're reading this in an office on the 10th floor), and make the most of the weather, before Wimbledon and the inevitable summer of rain sets in. And we've got another couple of fine excursions, detailed below, to tempt you out and about.
Our first event this week is coming up on Wednesday evening, when Charles will be taking a six mile evening hike around Highgate and then on to Alexandra Palace. If you'd like to join this walk, and finish up with an exploration of a fine Victorian icon named for an earlier Princess of Wales and later the spiritual home of the BBC, take the tube to East Finchley and meet Charles at the station at 18.00.

We've explored so many aquatic byways lately that you could be forgiven for thinking that London LDWA was actually based in Venice. And, true to form, on Saturday, Alan will be leading us on a walk down another slightly less-well known waterway - in this case, the Wey Valley. His water-and-parks themed walk starts in Webridge and makes its way to Richmond, partly via the Thames Path as well as the Wey valley. Along the way (so to speak) he'll be taking in a part of the Tamsin trail, which for a moment almost made me think he was taking a massive diversion to New Zealand. If you'd like to go, just be at Weybridge station for 09.15 on Saturday morning.
Now, before we go..
Advance notice
New Walks Secretary / Weekly Update Editor needed by 2018
Meeting aficionados will remember that at the last LDWA AGM, the current walks secretary / weekly update editor (i.e. me) said that he would be stepping down at the 2018 AGM, after nearly four years in the role.
So although the walks programme up to September 2018 will be organised, and there is a series of weekly updates in the pipeline designed to keep you riveted to your inboxes until February next year, the Committee agreed at the last meeting that we should start the search for a successor (or successors) in plenty of time.
The job is interesting, worthwhile, a great opportunity to learn new skills, and at the centre of what LDWA London does. So it's quite important that we do find someone willing to take over in February 2018.
The walks secretary and weekly update roles could be separated - there's no reason why one person needs to do them both. Also, there's no absolute reason why the roles should be done in the future in exactly the same way in the future as they have been in the past.
At present, the combined role is a member of the LDWA London Committee and will continue to be so in the future. If it turns out that it would be appropriate to split the role, then most likely, both individuals would join the committee.
So - if you think you might be interested in learning a bit more about either or both of these roles, then please just reply to this email, or email ldwadawson@gmail.com to find out more (on a no-obligation basis).
It would good be to have someone (or more than one) in place by the autumn this year, so we can ensure a smooth handover.
Thank you for giving this your serious consideration.

And on that bombshell (to coin a phrase)..
That's all for now. How a great week, and don't forget to water the roses!
