Tattershall Trot 11th October
The Tattershall Trot on Sunday October 11th
12 members of the group assembled at the village hall in Tattershall for Dave Oxley's walk and we were pleased to welcome 3 visitors joining us for the day , swelling our numbers to 15 .
In fine weather we headed off for Tattershall Thorpe where we went past the Thorpe Camp Visitor's Centre, an aviation museum with it's Lightning jet on display. The route continued past worked out sand and gravel pits , now a wild-life reservation , and to Kirkby on Bain for a mid morning stop at the church .
On then to Toft Hill , over to Mareham le Fen then Revesby for lunch at the rather elegant St Lawrence church. After lunch we walked around the picturesque village green with it's Alms houses then along West Lane , a very testing mile or more of deep rutted track , thankfully dry at the time but a part of the walk that would have been hell had it been wet . Coming back to civilisation at Moorhouses we pressed on via Tumby Woodside and alongside the Coningsby airfield , sadly no Lancaster or Vulcan to be seen , then finally in to Coningsby village , along the River Bain to the church of The Holy Trinity at Tattershall , past the castle and then returned to our starting point .
Our thanks to Dave for leading a very interesting walk , to Lesley for the short bread and to Lorna for taking the photos.
