Windermere Wanders Ambleside to Threlkeld June 2023

Our second walk in the Windermere Wanders Series was an epic 4 day trek from Ambleside to Threlkeld, via 36 Wainwright Hills.  It was designed originally for a long weekend, but the Lake District lack of weekend accommodation in the honeypots along the way, forced us to change the plans to mid week.  Therefore future 'weekends' of this nature will just be fore Saturdays and Sundays and be planned well in advance to allow accommodation to be found, We had a reasonable sized group for the first day, but after that just three or four souls completed the challenge each day.

The weather was really hot for three of the days, but we got a storm of rain on the last afternoon, but it did nothing to dampen the spirts of those completing the challenge.  If you add the total Wainwrights climbed by the group together, an impressive 402 tops were reached!   And finally we can't post these pictures without recognising that two of our group on these superb walks are no longer with us, both taken far too soon, and we hold fond memories of Simon Colchester from Norfolk and Suffolk group who joined us for a day, and also John Leete from North Yorkshire.  It was a pleasure to have them along with us and they will be missed on future Wanders.
