Hi All,

Please see below, the latest information from Colin regarding this trip:

Dorset LDWA does Swallows and Amazons

The Dorset LDWA are organising a group trip to the Lake District in September, to do some exciting walks in the area.  The following is a brief summary of the trip:

When:  Monday 26th September 2022 to Friday 30th September.  Travel up on the Monday, walk Tuesday to Thursday and travel back on the Friday.

Where:  We will be staying at Bank Ground Farm on the banks of Coniston Water https://bankground.com/.  Those who remember reading Swallows and Amazons may remember the Walker children set off from their holiday at Holly Howe, which is based on Bank Ground Farm.

Accommodation:  The farm has a number of self-catering cottages; I have booked the barn, which sleeps 16.  The barn has 6 bedrooms: 1 double; 3 that can be double or twins; and 2 that have four single beds (proper single beds not bunk beds).  Therefore we should be able to provide couples with their own rooms and accommodate everybody else in shared rooms.

There are four other small cottages, so those who are interested in staying on their own or staying for a longer holiday may be interested in booking one of these.  They also operate a B&B in the Farmhouse, so if you want your own ensuite room, this could be an option for you.

Cost:  The cost of staying in the Barn will depend on how many we get on the trip, but I expect it to be in the range of £150 to £200 per person for the four nights.  In addition, you will have your own travel and catering costs.  I will be applying for a subsidy from group funds as we did last year; so if this is approved these costs will be reduced.

Should we get more than 16 people wanting to go then there is an option to book another of the smaller cottages.  However these would be at a slightly higher cost per person.

Walks:  I will be leading a full day walk on each of the three days.  If you feel that three consecutive full day walks is a bit much, there is an option to spend a day sightseeing or go on your own shorter walk. In previous years some of the group have taken this option, so you will probably not be on your own, unless of course you want to be.

If you are interested in going on the group trip, either staying in the group accommodation or making your own arrangements, then please contact me (Colin) using the contact details below.
