Hi All,

Please see below information from Colin Utting regarding a possible group trip to the Lake District next year:

In September 2021 the group had a successful walking trip to Snowdonia where we hired a hostel for exclusive use and went out walking each day.  This year it is proposed to run a similar trip, but this time travelling to the Lake District.  This email explains a bit about the proposed trip and is designed to gauge interest so I can look for an appropriately sized property and plan dates.  Please complete the survey at the end of this email.

Dates

The trip will take place late in September 2022.  Last year we travelled to Snowdonia on Thursday (stopping for a short walk on the way) and travelled back on the Monday.  This was to enable those who still work to minimise the annual leave they have to use.  However, most of the people who were on the trip were retired so there is an option to do a mid-week trip where there would be more availability of accommodation and at a reduced price.

Accommodation

Last year we hired the whole of a hostel and it would be the intention to do the same again this year.  In the Lake District there are also a lot of large houses that can be hired, so I will look at this option as well.  Effectively these options are very similar, but the large houses tend to have smaller bedrooms.

For those who would rather not stay in group accommodation there is the option to book your own accommodation and join us for the walks.

Walks

There would be walks every day, but you can obviously choose to skip a day and do your own thing.  If there are enough of us there could be an option for challenging and easier walks on some days.

Cost

The cost will depend on the accommodation we can find and the number of people on the trip.  I have noticed that holiday accommodation costs in the UK have increased in the last year as less people want to travel abroad; also accommodation in the Lake District is slightly more expensive that Snowdonia.

I think for 4 nights’ accommodation we should be able to get some nice accommodation for less than £200 per person.  On top of this would be your food and travel costs.  Last year we received a subsidy from group funds, and it would be intended to seek a subsidy again for this trip.

Survey

Please complete this survey (3 questions below) and forward to mail@cdutting.co.uk by 31/12/21.  Completing the survey does not commit you to coming on the trip, but will help me plan dates and suitably sized accommodation.

  • Are you interested in a group trip to the Lake District in late September 2022?
  • Would you be happy with a midweek trip (leaving Dorset on Sunday or Monday and returning Thursday or Friday), or would you prefer a trip including the weekend?
  • Would you like to stay in the group accommodation?

Colin
