Laversdale Loop 16/04/2023

Led by Trish

On Sunday 16th April five of us set off on this walk. Although it was cloudy, there was little wind and no rain in the forecast.

Leaving Scotby we headed towards Wetheral and then took the footpath over the first golf-course of the day.

Through Warwick-on-Eden and along the A69 to Warwick Bridge. This took us across The Eden. Then into Little Corby and Newby East, here we admired the transformation of
The Hall, (Grade II) which is gradually being brought back to life fromalmost complete dereliction.

Footpaths took us by the second golf course, and into Crosby-on-Eden where we joined the Hadrian’s Wall route and we had a coffee break.
We followed the route a short distance and left it to go towards Scaleby Castle. We turned right at Highfieldmoor farm and into Laversdale village.

Although there is a bench in the centre of the village it was too early for lunch. In Laversdale there is a thatched cottage which also takes part in the Open Gardens Scheme.
We dropped back onto Hadrian’s Wall route and back to where we had had coffee for our lunch stop.

There were many spring flowers to admire and a welcome sight after a rather long winter. We continued along the route into Rickerby Park, where we had another short break and a sugar top up.

We the used the suspension bridge to recross The Eden. This took us to the third and final golf course of the day.
To get back to Scotby, to keep off the busy roads as much as possible,we went between the golf course and the football ground and crossed Warwick Road to get into Melbourne Park and back to where we started.
