Towers & Bowers - Thurs 7th Feb 2019

Leader: Geoff Curnock

14 walkers, 15½ miles

A very cold and windy morning, a fair bit of mud, lots of kites spotted overhead, a lovely sunny afternoon.

Thrapston and the River Nene, the Nene Way, Jim told us the story of the old railway viaduct and the boat moored under the road bridge.  The muddy field. Woodford, Twywell, a late morning break at the church at Slipton, what a darling little church sitting in the fields, that was well worth the wait.  Drayton House. Views across to Lowick church, and lunch break at the pretty village of Sudborough. Yay, blue sky and sunshine!  The Round House, built as a toll house, later a bakery, a public house, then the  home of the author B.B. (Denys Watkins-Pitchford) .A lovely walk through the woods with the sun filtering through the trees. Aldwinkle and daffodils blooming outside the village hall. The Nene and the Nene Navigation back to Thrapston.

Thank you Geoff for a very enjoyable walk.
