1.  AGM

The Committee has agreed reluctantly that it won’t be sensible to hold our normal format AGM in November. Instead, the AGM will take place by Zoom.  We’re working on the arrangements now. You will be asked to register and will get a Zoom meeting link sent by email. We hope as many of you as possible will be able to join in. We’ll investigate other ways that you can join in if you haven’t got a PC, laptop, tablet or smart phone.

2.  Nominations for Officers and Committee

The deadline for nominations for Officers and Committee Members is Sunday, 1 November.  We have received nominations for all Officers except Group Secretary.  Additionally, there is still a vacancy for two Ordinary Committee Members.  Nominations will be taken at the AGM on Sunday 29 November for any unfilled position.

I have been the Group Secretary for the last 5 years but I am now standing down. Dave Findel-Hawkins is also retiring from the Committee, having joined in 2011 to take over the Membership Secretary role.  After 5 years, Mary Knight is standing down as our Walks Secretary but, happily for us, is willing to stay on the Committee. And so, a plea – we already have one returning committee member duly proposed and seconded, but we need another two Committee members and we need a Group Secretary. Please consider putting your name forward to help the Group, if you want to find out more please get in touch.

3.  Role of Group Secretary

BBN is required to have a Secretary as one of our three compulsory officers (the others are Chair and Treasurer).  The job entails:

  • Liaising  with other BBN committee members.
  • Dealing with BBN members enquiries.
  • Dealing with public enquiries (phone/email) from potential new members.
  • Emailing group members with news updates
  • Attending AGM and Committee meetings (usually 3 per year)
  • Preparing agendas, circulating to committee members and asking for their reports
  • Sending the minutes of the Local Group AGM to the LDWA Local Groups Officer within 28 days of the meeting
  • But not required to take minutes
