Long Distance Paths/Trailwalking

From the rugged hills and moors of the western Peak, through the green valleys and the post-industrial heritage landscape of the Mersey Basin to Delamere Forest and the sandstone edges of the Mid-Cheshire Ridge, South Manchester's own "home patch" offers a great variety of walking country.  There are a large number of Long Distance Paths running through or near our area, ranging from 10-mile riverside strolls to multi-day hikes such as the Pennine Way, Midshires Way and Trans-Pennine Trail.  Here is a list, with links to the LDWA's national database for full details of each.

LDWA Walks

The LDWA organises many challenge events and local group social walks, as well as listing many more organised by other organisations. Challenge events are normally between 20 and 100 miles and must generally be completed within a defined time limit. Social walks are normally led walks of around 20 miles.
